Easter is upon us, the most important time of the year for
Christians and non Christians alike.
What are we searching for at this time of the year? Are we out there looking for
the commercialism? Are we taking our children to search for money or
candy-filled eggs, to sit on the Easter bunny’s lap, or getting the basket
filled with fake grass and sugar?
It’s true this time of year--and the rest of the year as well—that we should be
searching for the truth, not the lie of Satan. We should be looking to answer
the knock of the one who loves us and wants us to have eternal life in that
beautiful place called heaven. Not the whispers of the deceiver who would have
us placing our admiration on commercialism and the things it buys. We should be
looking for what’s emulating from us, not what we are putting in our mouth.
This time of the year is the culmination of the all-important war for the
universe. Don’t think that I’m saying that the battles don’t go on all year
round, because they do; but the war has been won.
Let me explain. You see, every other war consists of numerous battles that win
the conflict. From the onset, neither side can predict who will win the war.
However, this war was fought contrary to conflicts of mortal man. All wars here
on earth are won by whoever wins the most battles. That side wins the war and
it’s over; but this universal war was fought in reverse.
You see, the winner of this war was never in doubt, from the time the angels
rebelled at the leadership of Satan, God’s power would inevitably win. God
became incarnate in the flesh of man, died flawlessly on the cross, and the war
was won—meaning the conflict should have been over . . . right?
Wrong! The battles rage on every day for our souls, but the outcome has nothing
to do with the war.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever
believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:15-17).
This time of year should be about honoring the war hero—our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ—not materializing it by chasing the Easter bunny. Don’t
misunderstand; I’m not saying that God does not want us together celebrating the
victory He has won—because He surely does.
However, getting together with Christian loved ones, loving, laughing, and
having a delicious meal in the name of our King is one thing. Taking Jesus
Christ out of the holiday and replacing it with the Easter bunny is, in my
opinion, demonic. I find it as abhorrent in the eyes of God as putting Santa
Claus at the center of our other all-important Christian holiday. If the
religions of the world want to celebrate this time of year by gorging their
children with candy and telling them all about the “Easter bunny” let them do
so, but let’s not spit in the face of our Lord by contributing.
I don’t understand this country. We are appalled about the recent news of how
our war-injured are being treated at government hospitals. We scream for better
treatment, better conditions, vowing that heads must roll. However, we sit back,
allow, and even partake in the trivializing of the greatest war hero of all
time.
This time of year is about the sacrifice God made for us; the beating, the
humiliation, the pain--physically and emotionally—and the terror not even His
closest friends could take part in. This God man was abandoned by the people,
and even by those he trusted the most. He died on a cross, naked and alone,
bearing the weight of the world’s sin on his shoulders.
Christ’s death on the cross paid for our sins and made it possible for us to
gain access to heaven through His righteousness alone—not ours--and that’s the
message we all need to remember at Easter.
God bless you all!
