The Story Behind
Shawn's Book
by Barbara Brabec
But for the grace of God,
Shawn Smith would have died at the end of a rope when he was just 35 years old.

As Shawn explains in his book,
"I was completely out of touch with reality at
that point. I felt that the quality of my life was gone, and all I wanted to do
was go to that place where my grandmother was. I had run the rope to the second
floor, wrapped it around the washer and dryer, through the banister, and to the
foyer below. I climbed to the top of a stepladder, wrapped the rope around my
neck, and prepared to jump off."
But then, miraculously, Shawn heard what he later came to think of as "a
whisper of divine intervention." He was literally pulled back from death and the
abyss of hell by a voice he believed to be that of his godly grandmother calling
to him from the grave, saying, "You don’t want to do this, Shawn. People love
you."
Shawn then climbed down from the ladder, removed the rope from his neck,
collapsed in a puddle of tears, and began the long, tortuous road back from
total despair and near insanity to ultimately find true happiness and peace in
God for the first time in his life. Exactly how he did this--and what he learned
as he gradually came to terms with all the life-shattering experiences that had
driven him to descend to such depths in life--is what his self-help book and
autobiography,
FIND HAPPINESS, is all about.
Because Shawn’s life was also dramatically impacted by
his "accidental"
encounter with me, and because I have long wanted to expand my own ministry
on the Web, I am happy to have some of my articles on the site and be able to
manage it for Shawn. Meanwhile, I am encouraging Shawn to develop
his ministry and write other books as he continues to grow in his walk with God.
"I know now that my loving Father and savior, Jesus Christ,
intervened on my behalf against Satan even before I asked him to. To me, the
greatest miracle of all is that God took the reprobated vile abomination called
Shawn Smith and turned him into his tool. I love him so very deeply for it."
